Just days after the war erupted on October 7, 2023, Israel cut electricity to Gaza. Israel restored electricity to Gaza in mid-2024.
The only point where electricity was restored, in July, was to power a wastewater treatment facility. Shutting down the facility could quickly lead to raw sewage flowing into the sea and reaching Israel's shores. Cohen's move is not expected to affect the electricity supply to the Gaza Strip, as power was cut off on October 7, 2023.
